What is CPP?

CPP stands for Cast Polypropylene, and offers a range of beneficial properties, making it suitable for various packaging and industrial applications. CPP film typically has excellent transparency, good flexibility and softness, good moisture resistance, heat sealability, tear-resistance, and chemical resistance.

CPP film is produced through the extrusion process of polypropylene (PP) and differs from BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film. It belongs to the category of non-oriented films and possesses excellent transparency, high glossiness, good rigidity, effective moisture barrier, outstanding heat resistance, and ease of heat sealing.

What is PP Film?

PP film, or polypropylene film, is a thin film primarily composed of polypropylene (PP) as its main raw material.

Polypropylene is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with the following characteristics:

  • High density and a high crystalline linear polymer without side chains, making it one of the materials with extremely low density among all resins.
  • Excellent insulation properties, suitable for applications in the electrical insulation field.
  • Good chemical stability, except for susceptibility to concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid, remaining relatively stable to most other chemical reagents. However, low molecular weight alkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated hydrocarbons can soften or swell polypropylene.
  • High-temperature resistance, capable of withstanding the impact of both high and low temperatures.
  • Excellent mechanical properties.

  • Heat-sealing film for printing and laminate packaging, widely used in the production of bags.

High-Temperature Applications

CPP film exhibits excellent heat resistance due to the high softening point of PP, which is approximately 140°C. This makes it suitable for applications in hot-fill packaging, retort pouches, and aseptic packaging.

Chemical Resistance

Its resistance to acids, alkalis, and oils further enhances its suitability, making it a preferred material for packaging bread products and laminating materials. The film is safe for food contact, demonstrating excellent performance without affecting the flavor of the packaged food.

In laminates with BOPP or PET as outer layer, CPP provides strong seals for various snacks and candies. MCPP (metalized CPP) is used for expanded food items and cereal bags.

Frozen & Chilled Foods
